Down in the Rabbit hole, deeper and deeper

Post by n01a »

Long story short, formatted Windows but previously done a backup of push2run folders.

Recovered those folders to get back All my commands.

Bullet notifications were deliverd but push2run did not find matching phrase.

Tried to reinstall but got the same problem.

Tried to delete database and now i got "SQL logic error No such table: table1"

And another window open asking for a password...

I fuxed up really bad

Gotta love Windows.

Do you still have the contents of your original push2run folders?

If yes, I would suggest you:

a) exit Push2Run if it is running

b) restore the copy of your database file ( Push2Run.db3 ) into its new location on your computer
which should be at C:\Users\xxxx\AppData\Roaming\Push2Run (where xxxx is your windows user id)

c) delete the setting file on your computer,
which should be in a folder within C:\Users\xxxx\AppData\Local\Rob_Latour\ (where xxxx is your windows user id)
actually just delete C:\Users\xxxx\AppData\Local\Rob_Latour\ and all its subfolders for simplicity

d) download and install the current version of the program from www.push2run.com

e) start up Push2Run (and it will automatically recreate the setting file using the default values).

f) go to the Push2Run main window, click on Actions - Options - Pushbullet and fill in the two fields as per the instructions here:
https://push2run.com/setup.html

Hopefully, that will put you back in business!

Solved above problems. Thanks.

Now i'm heading deeper in the hole.

Windows 10 Pro 1809 is a mess. UAC is a mess. I ended up disabling it because running a program with admin authorization is like trying to climb the fuxing Evarest.

Startup is just broken. I need some help to get push2run started correctly. Tried with bat files, script files, tasker  Failed miserably.

Last step to nirvana

ok - well I'm glad you got by the original issue.

Regarding UAC, I had a couple people report problems too, I just can't seem to recreate them myself - I tried a couple times thru this week.

In any case, please take a look a the post here: https://www.push2run.com/phpbb/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=658

if you go to the 2nd and 3rd pages there are some workarounds listed.

The most promising, that allows you to work with the current version is:

I found a way to use 2.1.1 with User Access Control Settings set to "Never Notify"

-first you have to turn uac on
-reboot you PC
-install 2.1.1 in option check "start using administrator privileges by default"
-you can now turn uac off
-reboot you PC

Push2Run can now run with UAC set to "Never Notify"
but on the third page there is also a link to version 2.1 of the program which doesn't have this problem (I just can't revert to it as version 2.1.1 worked around another problem with admin startups; gotta love life with Windows!).

In any case, I would appreciate knowing how you fare.

Thanks, Rob

Startup is ok now, i don't know why but it works only from All Users startup directory:
https://www.thewindowsclub.com/startup- ... -windows-8

I would also like to enable UAC, will try later

Oddly, i can't seem to recreate the problem with either UAC on or off.

I thought it might be the version of Windows. I'm using 10 64 bit and just upgraded to the most current release (1809) - but try as I might it just works for me in all cases (in 1809 and what version I had previously).

Out of curiosity, is the Windows User Account that you are working with which has the problems an Administrator's account?

(You can check that be going to the Windows Control Panel and clicking on User Accounts).
