push2run doesn't start in Windows 10

Here you are welcome to report any Push2Run bugs you may have encountered

if you know of a workaround, it would be great if you would mention that too

push2run doesn't start in Windows 10

Post by Dennco10 »

Version 3.6.1.0 worked okay in my Windows 10 desktop, but 4.2.0.0 starts but crashes out after one or 2 seconds. I reinstalled the earlier version but now it too doesn't last more than a second.
Help!

Hmmmm, that's odd.

There should be a setting file in ...

C:\Users\your windows id\AppData\Local\Rob_Latour\Push2Run.exe_xxxxxxxx\4.3.0.0

named

Read me.txt

can you please have a read through that and let me know if it helped.

BTW, I tried installing 4.3.0.0 but that made no difference.

I read the readme through.

FWIW, I have two "C:\Users\your windows id\AppData\Local\Rob_Latour\Push2Run.exe_xxxxxxxx\" folders, although only the more recent one contains 4.3.0.0.

I found "4.3.0.0\read me.txt" and it occurred to me to uninstall Push2Run *and delete the Rob_Latour folder* before reinstalling Push2Run.

Unfortunately, there was no change. I did also try running as administrator.

Well it sounds like your settings are ok, perhaps it is your database?

Location is:
C:\Users\your windows id\AppData\Roaming\Push2Run

there is a read me.txt in there too, please take a look thru it and see if that helps?

I looked at the readme. Unfortunately I don't have a backup on my PC that precedes this incident. I tried also deleting the Rob Latour in Roaming and reinstalling afresh, or so I thought, but with the same result. The program did not start up on completion of the installation nor when I double clicked the icon on my desktop. I tried starting it in administrator mode and the options window appeared for about a second before vanishing. I couldn't see any sign of it in Task Manager. Is there something that needs to be fixed in the registry? I could try to restore something from my cloud storage backup, if I knew what!

No, the program doesn't use the registry. Just the settings and database files.

Perhaps you could copy your database file to another folder, for safe-keeping, and then delete the one that is there.

The program should automatically create it, it will be more or less blank (just the 'open the calculator' entry.

After that try starting the program up again. If it starts, then the database was your problem. If it does not start, then we'll have to think about this some more (and you will still have your database because you copied it someplace safe.)

Hello Rob
Thank you for your help with the 2 databases.

Removing the Roaming database did the trick. That and administrator mode.

To restore my old cards I restored a recent version of the Roaming database.
When I brought up push2run, everything looked good, but one of the actions "… was run but appears to have failed."
Long story short, I figured out that I had to add a new card with a copy of that action, and to delete the old one.

I can tell you that I depend on this program.
I'm quadriplegic and I use Dragon's voice recognition software exclusively to work my PC. Unfortunately Dragon crashes frequently and Google/IFTTT/Dropbox/push2run has turned out to be the simplest way to restart it.
Thank you.

Hi Dennco10,

I'm very glad we were able to work this out.

Not sure why your database would have been corrupted, I haven't seen that before - although I have seen the setting file being corrupted (on a bad Windows shut down for example) - so that's why I added the automatic backup (for both).

Glad the tool is of use to you, if you get a chance please pass on the good word about it!

Hi!
Don't you have another remedy for this issue?
The application is starting, freezing for 3-5 seconds, crushes and restart, in a loop.

I have already tried removing DB (it was recreated successfully), running as an admin... But nothing helps.
I enabled session logging:
  • 2022-11-20 22:57:20.762 - Dropbox monitoring begun for C:\Users\Aviw\Dropbox\Apps\Push2Run\
  • 2022-11-20 22:57:21.108 - Daily database backup already run
  • 2022-11-20 22:57:21.139 - Daily settings backup completed
  • 2022-11-20 22:57:23.378 - Exited
  • 2022-11-20 22:57:25.060 - Push2Run version 4.5.0.0 started
  • 2022-11-20 22:57:25.123 - Windows UAC notify feature is off
  • 2022-11-20 22:57:25.170 - Administrative privileges are enabled
  • 2022-11-20 22:57:25.485 - Current network adapter is Wi-Fi
  • 2022-11-20 22:57:25.595 - Network status is up
  • 2022-11-20 22:57:27.247 - Dropbox monitoring begun for C:\Users\Aviw\Dropbox\Apps\Push2Run\
  • 2022-11-20 22:57:27.658 - Daily database backup already run
  • 2022-11-20 22:57:27.684 - Daily settings backup already run
  • 2022-11-20 22:57:30.044 - Exited
but there is nothing useful for my case in it.

What else can I try?
Thanx in advance!

My system: windows 10 22h2

Your log says your windows UAC feature is turned off, try turning it on to its default levels.
