Depending on your settings, Push2Run checks for updates periodically. This is the only thing that I can think of that gets done periodically outside regular processing. The file that gets checked is https://www.Push2Run.com/version/currentversion.txt - and it contains the version number of the current stable release.

This is turned on and off, and the frequency can be changed, from the Actions - Options - Check for update window. There is also a button to check for update automatically on demand.

I am wondering if your firewall is blocking this functionality somehow?

Can you please try:
a) clicking the button to check for an update, and even if that works,
b) turning off the feature to see if that may be the problem when done automatically

I was just checking that. I normally do run Comodo but it isn't installed on this laptop.

I think our CPU usage problems are different on our machines though. On my machine, it is P2R that hogs the cpu.

On Jasons, it is his apps that eat it up. These appear to be different things ?

I just checked updates and it worked fine btw.

My machine has only had the cpu thing from P2R 3 times in over a month. It's not very often.

I set my updates to daily to see if it triggers more often.

actually, I am getting both crashes, but that is very observant of you warrior. lol

The crash I had yesterday happens more rarely than the one where P2R itself eats up CPU. In fact, I've only seen it once or twice through this whole ordeal.

I did the manual check for updates, and there was no crash. Now I've disabled automatic update check for another test.

Yep - That's the only thing in common.

I'd be curious to see if you disabled - Comodo Secure Shopping

and see if it stopped the cpu usage from the other programs.

It is meant to intercept KB commands from other processes - something which P2R requires.

I could see P2R looping with that Comodo thing running as it tried to do something with KB commands.

I'll try that, but I never actually use secure shopping, so I doubt that's the cause. I've also got a list of running (Non-MS) services, if you'd like a copy of that list as well?

today I got the crash that has P2R eating all the CPU by itself. I changed it's affinity to sit on a single core, and issued a command... This is (strangely enough) NOT a hung state, as the app still receives, and processes commands.

secure shopping is definitely not the cause of this, since i disabled it.I'm not sure how useful the ProcMon log of only this process will be helpful, but it is attached in a zip file. When I saved the log, I saved it as CSV format.

for me, this seems quite random at this point. It's happened when changing display configs, during game play, during movies, and almost always more than 24-48 hours after P2R is started on my machine.

As a side note, I have a second machine that I use P2R on, which has been running non-stop for the last week. It is a file serer for my home. P2R does not crash like this at all on that system, so what I may do is look for things that are on this one but not on that one.

As a test, I'm also going to run the app, without issuing ANY commands to it until either it crashes, or for a week. On the server, it hasn't received any commands, but each time it crashes on here, it has received at least 1 command. doubt that has anything to do with it, but can't hurt to test anyway.

On the laptop I have the cpu hogging issue, I never issue any commands to it. It is just 'running' all the time.

Warrior, are you running P2R as admin in Windows 7? I ask because in at least one other post, you had issues when running without elevation. running as admin is something i've yet to try.
